International Heritage Language Conference
Project Leader: Heritage Center Executive Committee
The NHLRC held its first conference on February 19-21, 2010 at UCLA. Approximately 350 people attended. Presenters from 20 countries gave papers and poster sessions on 40 languages, including several sign languages. Two days of presentations and poster sessions were followed by a half-day of workshops on heritage teaching, most of them language-specific (Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Persian, Russian, and Spanish). Participants identified themselves as instructors, administrators, researchers, in various combinations of those roles, and as graduate students. We will hold a similar conference in 2013-14.
