A cornerstone project for the NHLRC is an annual week-long research institute which has been held each summer since 2007. The institutes aim to support a principal NHLRC mission: the development of a research base for heritage language education and connect research findings with pedagogical approaches. The institutes bring together researchers, language educators, and graduate students to create connections between theory and practice and contribute to a new subfield of applied linguistics and heritage language education and to set the next stage of a research agenda.
