Kim Jin-Hyang, former professor at KAIST University, will speak on the ill-fated industrial complex jointly operated by North and South Korea.

Friday, June 3, 2016
2:30 PM - 4:00 PM

10383 Bunche Hall
UCLA

Earlier this year, South Korea closed down the Kaesong Industrial Complex (KIC), a North-South jointly operated industrial region in North Korea, following the North’s recent nuclear test. Prof. Jin Hyang Kim, a renowned scholar of North-South Korean relations at KAIST University, had overseen the operation at the KIC for four years. He will discuss how North and South Korea’s unceasing hostile relations not only brought about the appalling ignorance regarding North Korea, but also construed North Korea as an object of distortion. Through the untold stories about North and South Korean people at the KIC, he will address how the correct understanding of North Korea will be a stepping-stone for a peaceful unification of North and South Korea.

Lecture will be in Korean.

This event is exclusive to CKS Visiting Scholars, graduate/undergraduate students, and faculty.
