Dr. Miguel E. Basáñez, Mexico’s Ambassador to the US, presents his new book, A World of Three Cultures. In his book, Dr. Miguel Basáñez argues that the millions of micro-cultures in the world belong to one of three categories: honor, achievement, or joy. He draws on data from governments, NGOs and the World Values Survey, addressing over one hundred countries.

About Speakers:

Dr. Basáñez was ratified by the Mexican Senate as Ambassador of Mexico to the United States on September 2, 2015. Prior to his appointment as ambassador, he was Professor of Values, Culture and Development at Fletcher School of Tufts University and Director of Special Research and Educational Projects. In the public sector, he worked as Director General of opinion polling for the Office of the President, Chief of Staff for the Governor of the State of Mexico, Attorney General of the State of Mexico and Chief of Staff for the Secretary of Energy. He is the author or editor of 14 books, including: The Struggle for Hegemony in Mexico, 1968-1980; The Pulse of the Presidential Terms: 20 Years of Crisis in Mexico. He has a Ph.D. in Political Sociology from the London School of Economics.

Discussant: Gabriel Rossman (Department of Sociology). Professor Rossman's research addresses the entertainment industry, how ideas and behaviors spread, and morality in exchange.

Parking Information: The closest parking lot is Structure #3. Visitors may purchase daily parking permits (Currently $12) by stopping at the Information & Parking kiosks (cash only) or by using a "Pay by Space" pay station. The closest information booth to Structure #3 is located on Hilgard and Westholme Ave. To use a Parking Pay Station: Simply drive to a self-service Pay Station location (there is one located in Structure #3). Please read the posted signs and screen prompts for Pay by Space. Pay Stations allow you to select the time you need to spend on campus and pay accordingly (all-day passes can also be purchased).
