Born a Eurasian “half-caste” in Calcutta in 1904, Cedric Dover died in England in 1961 a “colored” man. One of the foremost experts on race in his generation and a leading figure in the movement toward Afro-Asian solidarity, Dover championed a colored cosmopolitanism pioneered by the African American scholar and activist, W.E.B. Du Bois. Dover understood himself as one of the leading students of Du Bois. By probing the relationship between Dover and Du Bois, this talk will examine the role of India in the global struggle to transcend the color line.
